In this color. And I was wondering... a B5 A6 wagon with the 2.8 instead, of the allroad with the 2.7T... More reliable? Decent all around vehicle? I have wagon dreams for the not quite near future and am hoping for a diamond in the rough, as wagon options that fit my wants are just so limited.

Yeah, I mean the 2.7t isn’t the issue with the allroad, the suspension is. The 2.7t is a terrific engine, so is the 2.8 so you can’t go wrong either way.

I had a 2.7t/6m 2001 allroad from 99-158k miles, best car I’ve ever owned by a wide margin. But it had a bad suspension compressor when I got it, and it went through three more in the time I had it. Get a 2.7t/6m allroad, convert it to spring suspension, and have a great time.

Those are the more reliable bunch. Still watch the t-stat, window regulators, and coils. Talk to JKM

I drove a C5 with a 2.8, we sold it after 215k miles but it never had major problems. It is a great engine, but now I have a 3.2 (in a B7 Avant) and I think it’s better in every way. Either one will be good, but consider the 3.2 if its in the price range, and the newer nature of the engine will mean it will probably have fewer miles on it too.

The allroad? Absolutely. It's a great system, four levels...sport, normal, high, and off road. The bags tend to wear out, or they get old and crack. If you have a system that works it's awesome, but basically all parts of it are prone to failure around 80-100k miles.
